Work began Monday on the $1 million façade restoration project funded by a Community Development Block Grant, the city of Jefferson and building owners.
Demolition on the existing storefront at Muir Embroidery on the corner of N. Wilson and State St has been started. Jefferson city administrator Mike Palmer explained to the county board of supervisors Monday morning that Pinnacle Construction, general contractor for the project, wanted to start with buildings “that might be a little more work.”
Pinnacle Construction has arranged for office space on E. State St and has purchased a house in Jefferson in which an onsite supervisor and a project manager will live for the duration of the project.
The facades of 13 buildings in the Main Street district will be restored over the next six months, with the CDBG grant paying half the cost, the city paying one-fourth and building owners paying one-fourth. Buildings will be in various stages of renovation for more efficient use of crews.
Jefferson Matters: Main Street worked with the city staff in securing the grant and will continue to play a role until the project is completed in late November.
